Crown King School District – Instructional Assistant Position

Job Summary

Crown King School District seeks an Instructional Assistant to support our classroom teacher, working with students to help them understand the curriculum and progress through each lesson. In this role, you are responsible for helping students stay focused during independent work time, and provide assistance when needed. Our ideal candidate has an associate degree in a related field and/or coursework or experience in child development or education.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher in a multi-grade classroom
  • Help supervise students, keeping them focused and prepared
  • Provide individual assistance to students
  • Help grade papers and tests
  • Organize learning materials and prepare classroom supplies
  • Help organize the classroom each day

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • An associate degree in education, assistant teaching, child development, or a related field is preferred but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A passion for helping students succeed

Full Time Regular: Salary Range $15 – $25  hourly

SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
July 22, 2020

The meeting was called to order by Board Member, Kris Gray at 4:30 P.M.  Board Members Sheila Coleman and Margaret Henningsen were present by phone.  Also in attendance were Head Teacher, Shannon Olson and Administrative Assistant, Sue Hite.

Pledge of Allegiance

Unscheduled Public Appearance:

None

Financial:

 Margaret made a motion that the board approve payment of Voucher #9101, Kris seconded.

New Business:

  1. Margaret made a motion that students begin distance learning August 5th and will attend in person beginning Monday, August 17th, Sheila seconded.  If state requirements change, we will respond accordingly.
  2. Margaret made a motion that Shannon purchase distance learning software as discussed, Kris seconded.
  3. Margaret made a motion that Sue order SmartSpots, desk shields and additional masks, Kris seconded.
  4. Shannon was asked to post a notice requiring visitors to wear a mask in the building at this time.

Members of the Governing Board will attend either in person or by telephone conference call.
Given precautions related to “social distancing” and preventing the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, CKSD is adhering to state and national recommendations to limit group contacts to no more than 10 people with ample room to keep a six-feet space between individuals.

Pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.02, notice is hereby given to the Governing Board and to the General Public that the Governing Board will hold a meeting open to the public on the 22nd day of July 2020 at 4:30 P.M. at the Crown King Schoolhouse.

The Board may vote to go into executive session to discuss and consider any items pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.03. The Governing Board may consider any item on this agenda in any order and at any time during the meeting.

Agenda can be changed up to 24 hours before the meeting. All items on the agenda are to be considered study and potential action items.

July 1, 2020

The meeting was called to order by Board President, Margaret Henningsen at 4:30 P.M. Board Member Kris Gray was present. Board Member Sheila Coleman was absent. Also in attendance was Administrative Assistant, Sue Hite.

Minutes:

Kris made a motion that the Board approve the June 3, 2020 minutes, Margaret seconded.

Financial:

Margaret made a motion that the board approve payment of Vouchers #8123 and #9100, Kris seconded.

Maintenance:

Margaret will contact Jerry for a project completion update.

New Business:

  1. Margaret made a motion to approve the FY2020/2021 Budget Adoption, Kris seconded.
  2. FY20-21 Intergovernmental Agreement for E-rate Services between Crown King S.D. and Yavapai County through the Yavapai County School Superintendent – approved and signed.
  3. Certified Employee Staffing Agreements for FY 20/21 – approved and signed
  4. Margaret made a motion that the board purchase a total of 7 Chromebooks and eliminate several Proposed playground equipment items, Kris seconded and the ESSER Grant Funding proposed expenditures were approved. It is understood that this is a fluid document, subject to revisions.
  5. The board reviewed the school’s COVID -19 protocols. They agreed to hold a special meeting (tentatively July 14 or 15) to readdress the topic of re-opening the school.

Please be advised that a majority, constituting a quorum, of the Crown King Governing Board may/will be in attendance at the Crown King School on Wednesday July 1, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. for a study session to discuss school reopening plans preceding the Public Hearing and Board Meeting.

REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
June 3, 2020

The meeting was called to order by Board President, Margaret Henningsen at 4:30 P.M. Board Member Kris Gray was present. Board Member Sheila Coleman was absent. Also, in attendance were Administrative Assistant, Sue Hite; Maintenance/Custodial, Jordan Rodjaz, Karen McIntyre and Jerry Swanson.

Unscheduled Public Appearance:

Maintenance:

Jerry and Jordan have started on the installation of the safety doors, replacing porch railings and repairing the picnic tables. They agreed to have these projects completed in June so that Karen can begin deep cleaning the school in July.

Minutes:

Kris made a motion that the Board approve the May 6, 2020 minutes, Margaret seconded.

Correspondence:

The district was notified that Crown King is eligible for Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding of $50,000. This grant will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Financial:

Margaret made a motion that the board approve payment of Voucher #8122, Kris seconded.

New Business:

    • A. Margaret made a motion to approve the FY2020/2021 Budget Proposal, Kris seconded.
    • B. Governing Board Resolution Authorizing Who Can Approve and Sign Legal Documents – approved and signed.
    • C. FY20-21 Intergovernmental Agreement for Education Services between Crown King and Yavapai County – approved and signed.
    • D. Renew Intergovernmental Agreement with Yavapai County Education Technology Consortium – approved and signed.
    • E. Renew Intergovernmental Agreement with Forest Fee Management Association – approved and signed.
    • F. Classified Employee Staffing Agreements for FY 20/21 – approved and signed. In addition, it was agreed that Sue is to advertise job openings for the positions of Administrative Assistant and Certified Substitute Teacher.
    • G. The board discussed the state guidelines for the re-opening of the school. This will be readdressed at the next board meeting.

The meeting was called to order by Board President, Margaret Henningsen at 4:30 P.M.
Board Members Kris Gray and Sheila Coleman were present. Also, in attendance were Head Teacher, Shannon Olson and Administrative Assistant, Sue Hite

Minutes:

Sheila made a motion that the Board approve the March 25, 2020 minutes, Margaret seconded.

Maintenance:

Margaret will talk to Jerry regarding pending tasks and timelines.

Financial:

  • Margaret made a motion that the board approve payment of Voucher #8121, Sheila seconded.
  • Margaret made a motion to approve ratification of Vouchers #8117 – 8120, Kris seconded.
  • The district received a Tax Credit donation of $200.00 from Jane Friedman.

Head Teacher Report:

School

  • The current school closure due to COVID19 is through the end of the year. We do not have to make up the missed time.
  • It has not yet been determined if we will open on time in August.
  • The article about our school is in the May issue of AZ Highways magazine.

Audits and Grants

  • We are almost finished with an ADM audit by the ADE. It is for 16/17, 17/18, and 18/19. I received the rough draft today, and have the exit conference next week.
  • We just finished year 4 of ESS monitoring and should receive a letter of completion soon.
  • The estimated amount we will receive from the REAP grant is $18,595. We are in the process of applying.

Maintenance

  • Jordan completed the trim and painted the sunroom at the teacherage.

  1. Margaret made a motion to approve the FY20 Budget Revision, Sheila and Kris seconded.
  2. FY20-21 Expense Voucher Statement of Authorization – Signed

SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES – March 25, 2020

Governing Board

The meeting was called to order by Board Member, Kris Gray at 4:30 P.M. Board President, Margaret Henningsen and Board Member, Sheila Coleman were present via telephone. Also, in attendance were Head Teacher, Shannon Olson and Administrative Assistant, Sue Hite

Unscheduled Public Appearance:

None

Head Teacher Report:

  • No change in enrollment.
  • The current school closure due to COVID19 is through April 10. Schools do not have to make up the days missed at this time.
  • Learning is expected to continue during the closure using alternative methods.
  • AZM2 is cancelled for this year.
  • The CPR/First Aid Training is postponed. We will reschedule once we know when school will reopen.

New Business:

  1. Margaret made a motion to offer the Head Teacher Contract and Addendum to Shannon Olson for the 2020/2021 school year with a 2% salary increase, Kris and Margaret seconded. In addition, Margaret made a motion that the district renew participation with ASBAIT for 2020/2021,
    Sheila and Kris seconded.
  2. The 2020/2021 School Calendar was approved.
  3. Kris signed the FY 2020/2021Projected Services Agreement from the Yavapai Education Service Agency.
